Balls of concrete - every soccer players
dream!

This little article
will teach you a fast, cheap way to make
some.
Seer
Here is what you will
need:
-
A sack of “Topping Mix” this is a concrete
mix that has finer than normal sand and no
aggregates. It is for repairs
and topping up old concrete.
-
Make a bed of sand to hold the
mold.
This should be about 3 or 4 inches of damp
sand.
Pick up a fistful and squeeze it. If the sand holds
its shape it is just right.
-
On the way back from the building supply
stop at your local Dollar store and get a couple of
balls.
You should look for ones that have a thick
skin.
These are your molds, so you want them to be able to
maintain the round shape when they are full of
concrete.
-
Cut a hole about 3 inches diameter in the
ball.
Swirl a little oil around inside until it is all
coated.
Set the ball upside-down for 5 or 10 minutes to drain
any excess oil.
-
Set the ball in your sand box, pack the sand
around it so it is well supported.
-
Mix your concrete. Make it about as
thick as cake mix. You must be able to
POUR this. Just like you pour
pancake mix onto a griddle.
-
Fill the ball. Pour the concrete in as
smoothly as you can, you don’t want to get any air in
the form. Slowly move a stick in and out of the
concrete, this will help any air move to the
top. Don’t over do it, you can make the concrete
settle to much and weaken it.
-
After it has set for at least 48 hours you
can cut away the plastic mold and place the concrete
ball in a plastic bag. Let it cure the shade for a
week then bring it out and show it
off!
-
One tip – don’t make a big one first try,
you will want to start with one about 10 or 12 inches
diameter to make sure your mix is right.
